Mechanical Engineering, B.S. from MIT

I'm Rin, and teaching is my passion! Over the past 10 years, I've had the privilege of working with students of all ages, from kindergarteners to adults, across a wide range of STEM subjects, including calculus, physics, coding, and sustainable engineering design. I believe learning should be fun, driven by curiosity, and grounded in hands-on experiences. In my teaching, I focus on meeting students where they are academically, offering the right level of challenge while making difficult concepts approachable. Whether it's breaking down complex problems into simpler steps or rephrasing key ideas in more relatable terms, I'm here to make learning more accessible. I also encourage students to develop patience and resilience, knowing that confidence often grows as grades and study habits improve. Most of my life has been spent in school—I’m currently completing my PhD in Biomedical Engineering at USC, after earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. Having experienced the pressures of academia firsthand, I understand how challenging and competitive it can be. My goal is to help students navigate their educational journey and discover the opportunities it can unlock. Teaching allows me to pay forward the support I've received, and I love sharing my experience with younger learners.

Tutor, Academic Advisor & Founder

Enthusiasm is contagious. As a tutor, I have always been passionate and excited about helping others learn. Growing up in the California public education system, I saw a one-size-fits-all approach to learning that just didn't seem to work. If a student fell behind, they tended to stay that way. The only way out of this rut seemed to be individualized help. At the time, as a student, I developed the precursor to tutoring skills by learning in study groups with my peers. I noticed that the best way to learn something was to teach it to someone else. When I started tutoring professionally in college, this became a core concept of my teaching style. It seems counterintuitive, but when students explain what they know to me, I can easily see the gaps in their problem-solving process and help bridge them. I have a degree in Psychology, and I incorporate research-supported learning techniques into my sessions with students. My goal is to empower students to find out why certain techniques and processes work -- if they can spot the pattern once, they'll be able to spot it again. Besides the improved self-esteem that comes with better grades and higher test scores, I believe that the approach one takes to learning is the approach one takes to life. Learning goes far beyond memorizing the concept or plugging in a formula: creative problem-solving is a skill that can be honed and applied in every aspect of life.  I started Frontrunners Tutoring because I'm passionate about setting students up for success. Getting an education profoundly changed my life. I'm enthusiastic about helping others realize the same outcome. Thank you for letting me be a part of the journey!  - Jonna Henderson, founder of Frontrunners Tutoring

Wendy Matta
Tutor

Hi, I’m Wendy! I’ve spent over 10 years helping students thrive in subjects ranging from English and History to Physics and Calculus. With dual degrees in Computational Mathematics and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, and a Master’s in Information and Data Science from UC Berkeley, I bring both academic rigor and compassion to my teaching. My approach centers patience, understanding, and individualized support. I’ve taught in classrooms, developed college curricula, and worked one-on-one with students from elementary through college, including those in AP/IB programs. As a first-generation student, I deeply understand the challenges of testing anxiety and learning differences, and I’ve helped families navigate IEPs and accommodations. Above all, I aim to empower students to build confidence, become independent problem solvers, and reach their full potential.
